memorial day wknd

I had such a great memorial day weekend (hope you did too)! It was definitely nice to have a day off work. Saturday morning I got up early to go to breakfast. It has become one of my favorite things to do - there are such good breakfast spots in Charlotte. This time I tried somewhere new, the flying biscuit. It was super delicious, especially their 'creamy dreamy grits'..

Then I went to lay by the pool to get some sun with Whitney and went to a bonfire later that night with Toree. It was a perfect, relaxing Saturday.

I even got to hang out with Zac, who was in town, and this sweet face:

Memorial day was filled with baking 'blueberry boy bait' (see recipe here), reading on my balcony, and a fun cookout to end the weekend.
Looking forward to more fun summer weekends to come!

DIY - plate cake stand & jewelry holder

So I really really love anything DIY (although I can never seem to find the time to tackle all of the projects I want to)! I can't remember where I first got the idea for this project. You can find lots of these for sale on Etsy.com, but it is really too easy and too inexpensive not to do yourself! I found the plates, glass, and pedestal at Value Village and Goodwill all for under $5 total.

cake (or thin mint, in this case) stand

jewelry holder made of two matching tea saucers and an upside down brandy glass

Basically all you need to do once you find your items is wash, dry, and then glue them together! I use a really durable craft adhesive called E-6000. It is waterproof and can be used on glass, wood, metal, ceramic, etc. It is currently (and successfully) holding up my side view mirror on my car..!!
Anyways - hope you enjoy :)

Brigid's visit

I just wanted to post a few pictures from Brigid's visit (which was actually about two weekends ago.. little late i know). She has been my best friend since 8th grade. I was the new kid at school and she was the very first person to introduce herself to me. In highschool we were inseparable. We would always drive all around Wilson in her little Mazda and have sleepovers, and i would sing to her before we fell asleep (haha). While she was here we brunched at my favorite brunch spot, Zada Jane's, and went to an all-day outdoor concert with some friends. Can't wait til she comes back :)

I really have such beautiful friends!

And one last picture of Brigid and I looking like babies our senior year of highschool:)

Love,
M.

mother's day

Happy Mother's Day!!

I just want to say how thankful I am to have such a wonderful mom and best friend. I would have never made it this far without her love, guidance, and generosity. She is truly a spectacular woman and a great delight in my life. I can only hope that I will be anywhere close to being as amazing of a mother as she was/is to my own children one day.

In other news, I wanted to share a few photos of one of the mother's day flower arrangements I created for my friend's mom. I was really happy with the way it turned out. I am starting to like this new little hobby :)
