diy coasters

I originally saw this diy on pinterest {original link here} and I thought it looked fun and simple enough! Here is how I did it:

1. Lace, spray adhesive, ceramic tile ($0.16 ea. at Lowe's), and spray paint

2. Spray lace with adhesive

3. Press the lace on the tile and spray with paint

4. Remove the lace and let dry

5. Hot glue four felt circles to the backs, and spray a sealant on top

6. And enjoy!
{I used two different lace patterns}

Tie four coasters up with a little twine and I think these would make a really cute gift!

eating in: sushi

I've really been wanting to start cooking at home more. I feel like I go out for almost every meal, or when I'm at home I eat some random combination of things I can find, like canned corn and a pb sandwhich... (don't judge). Don't get me wrong, I love going out and finding neat new places to eat, but there is just something I love about making my own food. I have a really long way to go when it comes to being anything near a good cook, but practice makes perfect!
One of my Christmas gifts from Kevin was a sushi plate, dip dish, and chopsticks - so I dusted off my rice cooker and we had a "make our own sushi night". It was a lot of fun and I am obsessed (actually going to a friend's tonight to make more with her!).

We used sashimi grade tuna (about $4 for the smallest portion, which was plenty, from HT), crab leg meat, cukes, carrots, avocado and wasabi as our fillings. We spent about $20 for four rolls, which is pretty cheap, and it was fun making up our own combinations :)

looking forward

 happy new year!
I am not really good at making new years resolutions because I never keep them.. but there are a few things that I would like to make sure I do more of this year:

1.  Be grateful
2. Be more encouraging, supporting and positive
3. take more photos
4. cook in more
5. Be a light to others

To ring in 2012, I celebrated around a bonfire with friends. The next morning Kevin and I met for brunch and spent the day lounging around watching 'How I Met Your Mother' in Netflix (which we are addicted too...). And later Toree put her own spin on a health, wealth, and happiness dinner of pork, spinach, horseradish mashed potatoes and (of course) black eyed peas for a few of us. It was sooo delicious.

(photo props to David Hole)

It's only Day 2 and its been great so far!
